Evaluation & Recommendation

Hein Computing will assess whether you are making full use of your present computer equipment and recommend new hardware and software to make your business more efficient.

Right now, we are evaluating Windows Vista for our clients.

Upgrading

We will help you get the highest possible return on your investment when upgrading your computer systems.  One of the most important services that we provide is recommending whether to keep your system as it is, upgrade old equipment for greater productivity or to purchase new equipment.  Hein Computing, Inc. is a PartnerONE for HP.  If you do need new equipment we can get some of the best systems made today for an aggressive price.

Computers and their related equipment are evolving every day.  Since 1965, their components have adhered to what is called Moore's Law.  It states that the number of transistors per integrated circuit will double every 18 months.  That can be roughly translated as saying that a new computer will be twice as capable as one a year and a half old.  It also means that a new computer is four times as capable in one three years old and eight times as one 4 and 1/2 years old.  So your 4 and 1/2 year old computer has roughly 12.5% the capability of a new one.  When using a computer, a quantitative difference such as this becomes a qualitative difference that can affect your business to a profound extent. That can mean your three or four year old computer is slowing you down and draining resources from your firm.  Your employees are wasting valuable time because of outmoded equipment.

Sometimes it makes sense to upgrade existing equipment, at other times to get rid of something that was perfectly good just a year ago, and this is a constantly evolving target.  Right now (6/07) we estimate that a 700 MH Pentium computer with 256 megabytes of memory is at the point where businesses should consider upgrading or replacing it soon.  Certainly, we would recommend that individuals should not put too much money into upgrading such a machine.  If you have any computers still running Windows '95, '98 or ME you should certainly consider replacing these units.  Most of the time it is not financially viable to upgrade the hardware and operating system of such a computer.

T1, DSL and Cable Connections

Broadband Internet connections (often 40-80 times faster than ones with a 56K modem) are becoming ever more essential to both home and office users.  Hein Computing, Inc. has set up numerous companies and individuals with T1, Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) and Cable Modems.  These are then run through routers to increase security and connectivity.  Routers allow broadband Internet connections to be shared among numerous computers over a network.  Nearly every one of my clients have moved to broadband.

Every single client who has upgraded has wondered how they existed before without  getting it.  A high-speed Internet connection completely changes the dynamics of home and businesses computing.  Persistent, always on connections means that e-mail becomes a much more effective tool for business and home use.  Updating of virus definitions, patches and updates of programs, the ability to experience the rich environment of the Internet all add to the necessity of upgrading to broadband.

Remote Connectivity

VPN (Virtual Private Networking)

One of the greatest benefits of a broadband connection in both the home and office is that you can then hook into the office computer from the home or anywhere else and work in real time from that remote location.

Your network server can be set up so that you can set up on any remote computer an encrypted session over the Internet called Virtual Private Networking (VPN).  Once you have established this connection, it is as if you have hooked a long, completely secure, cable directly into your network so that you can work on files directly on your company's servers.  You can also use Remote Desktop Protocol to connect directly to the desktop of Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista workstations so that it appears that you are working directly on your business desktop from remote locations.

Remote Web Workplace

Windows Small Business Server 2003 can be set up so you can use your browser over the Internet to connect to your networking domain and log onto your computers using Remote Web Workplace

Remote Assistance

Hein Computing now uses NTR Global over the Internet to connect between between our computers and any PC compatible computer anywhere in the world that has a broadband connection.  It enables us to view exactly what you are seeing on your screen while your are at your computer.  We can send and receive files of any size using this and also show our screen for training sessions.  NTR Global is an important tool for both support and training.

Security and Maintenance

Your automobile needs regular maintenance to keep it in good running order.  The same is true for your computers.  Hein Computing can provide regular scheduled maintenance to your computer system as well as recommend backup methods, hard disk optimization, updating critical operating files over the Internet, updating virus definitions, testing for viruses and spyware (called "malware") and memory management techniques that ensure the reliability of your data and the greatest efficiency of your systems. We can rescue "lost" files. We can help you share information between computers in your office, in your home and the portable computer you use on the road.

Office Moving

We take the headache out of dismantling your computer equipment, packing it and reinstalling it at your new site.

Networking

We recommend systems, hardware, cabling, hubs, servers, backup procedures and workstations. We deal with all aspects of using computers in a networked environment. Hein Computing, Inc. exclusively uses Windows 2003 Server and Windows 2003 Small Business for the operating system on a server in a server-based environment and some flavor of Windows XP or Vista in a peer-to-peer environment.
